Dutch craft beer Vincent gets a taste test

Vincent Spring Beer
Vincent Spring Beer

De Heide Brouwerij (Heather Brewery) in Ede, north-east of Arnhem has been producing regional beers since 2012. Ian McDonald of ‘t Terastje in Bruges introduced me to Vincent Spring beer following a trip back to his wife Patricia’s hometown. Deep straw-coloured with a white foam, the head dissipates quickly after pouring. The nose is hoppy and floral with hints of orange peel and spice. The taste has upper palate hop-bitterness with a rich blend of honey, butter and cream soda at the back of the mouth. The finish is bitter hop, creamy vanilla and orange peel. Inspired by the life and work of Vincent Van Gogh, it uses pure water from the Veluwe region, barley and wheat malts, citrus hops, yeast and orange peel. Rounded and full of flavour this is a beer that you could settle down with for an afternoon.  ABV 6.2%

De Heide Brouwerij will be launching a dark version of Vincent this autumn. Other beers in their stable include the amber Edenoartje, heavy Edelhert Donker, brown Pegasus, Everzwijn Tripel and golden Veluws Heiderbier. The brewery organises tours and tastings and you can even brew your own under the guidance of one of their brewmasters.
